How to Create a (Somewhat) Normal, Healthy Routine During Quarantine

I am quickly approaching month 5 of quarantine 🤭. For the first 2 months, I had university work to focus on so it was easy to keep a fairly normal routine which consisted of coding, studying and watching TV 😅. Now that I’ve graduated and there’s no more coursework and deadlines to keep me on a normal routine, I’ve had to make one that works for me. Even when though I’m staying home everyday, I think it’s important to have create a routine that works for you and keeps you grounded. Below is what a typical day in quarantine looks like for me although it varies day to day!

Quarantine Daily Routine

10:00 - 11:00 PM

Bedtime! 😴

Weekly goals:

  • Video call with friends: During quarantine I’ve realized how important it is to me that I keep in touch with friends so I try to schedule at least one video call catch-up with my friends per week! Even if you think there’s nothing to talk about since you’ve been at home, you’d be surprised how much there is to catch up about. In any case, it’s good to reach out and see how your friends are doing!

  • Spend time outdoors: My family and I have prioritized hiking once a week or doing some other fun outdoor activity like blueberry or strawberry picking 🍓! It’s good to get out of the house, get some fresh air, and get moving. We’re lucky enough to have some blueberry and strawberry patches close by that allow socially distanced picking with masks. Summer is halfway over and the winter is long so I’m trying to make the most of the good weather while it’s here!

  • Find time to journal: Lately, I’ve been finding it really valuable to journal and process my thoughts on paper. I recently bought a new journal from Etsy since I finished up my old one, and I love writing in it!

  • Tarot: This is definitely not for everyone but recently I’ve been trying to draw tarot cards at least once a week 🔮. One of my best friends from uni introduced me to tarot cards, and I like to use them to gain more clarity. Like I said, this is definitely a more personal one that I enjoy but I’ve found the practice relaxing, especially with the stress of quarantine and covid.

To sum up, that’s been my somewhat normal, healthy daily routine in quarantine! Like I said, my routine varies quite a bit day to day - but on average this is how most of my days go. 😊 I would love to hear about your routine in quarantine, and how you’ve been dealing with having to stay at home - if you want to share please leave a comment down below! 💬
